Why Choose Us?

We combine cutting-edge technology with Colombian artistry

Planned with 3D CBCT Imaging

Before surgery we take a cone-beam CT scan to measure bone height and width and locate nerves and sinuses. The implant position is planned digitally, and a printed surgical guide is used when the case calls for it.

Implant, Abutment and Crown — Explained

An implant is three parts: the titanium post, the abutment and the crown. Your written quote spells out each one, plus any graft or provisional tooth your case needs — so you can compare clinics fairly.

Real Timelines, No Shortcuts

Implants heal in phases. Osseointegration usually takes 3–6 months before the final crown. Same-day provisional teeth are possible only when the assessment confirms enough bone and implant stability.

Recognized Titanium Implant Systems

We place medical-grade titanium implants from recognized manufacturers. Ask us for the brand and reference of your implant: you take that record home so any dentist can maintain it.

Honest Risk Screening

Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, gum disease, night-time grinding and low bone volume all raise the failure risk. We screen for each one first — if you need a bone graft or gum treatment before the implant, we tell you.

Built for Patients Who Travel

Most US patients do implants in two trips. We group your appointments, follow your healing remotely by WhatsApp and video call, and help with airport pickup and hotel recommendations in Medellín.

The Process

  1. 1

    Assessment & 3D CBCT Scan

Clinical exam, X-rays and a 3D scan to measure the available bone. If you're abroad, send a recent panoramic X-ray and photos on WhatsApp first and we'll tell you what to expect before you book flights.

  2. 2

    Written Treatment Plan & Quote

You receive a written plan: number of implants, whether you need a bone graft or sinus lift, provisional tooth options, the type of final crown and how many visits each phase requires.

  3. 3

Implant Placement (30–60 min per implant)

Under local anesthesia, the titanium post is placed in the jawbone, guided by the digital plan. Most patients feel pressure, not pain, and return to light activity the next day.

  4. 4

    Osseointegration (3–6 Months)

The bone grows onto the implant surface. Healing time depends on the jaw and bone quality — it is often shorter in the lower jaw. In visible areas you can wear a provisional tooth; if you've flown home, we follow up remotely.

  5. 5

    Final Crown

Once integration is confirmed on an X-ray, we take digital impressions and fit a custom crown shade-matched to your teeth, then adjust your bite. For travelers, this is the second trip (typically 3–5 days).

Dental implants are titanium posts placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. After roughly 3–6 months of osseointegration, a custom crown is fixed on top, restoring chewing and appearance. Systematic reviews report implant survival rates above 96% at 10 years. At Smile Dental Center Medellín (El Poblado, Colombia) we plan every implant with a 3D CBCT scan and give you a written quote after your assessment.

A new root for your tooth

Titanium is biocompatible: bone grows onto its surface and locks it in place. That's why an implant, unlike a bridge or a removable denture, transmits bite force to the jaw and helps preserve the bone. We use implants from recognized manufacturers and give you the reference.

  • Custom crown shade-matched to your teeth
  • Neighboring teeth stay untouched
  • Brush and use it like a natural tooth

Planned surgery

Planned with 3D CBCT imaging

Before surgery we measure your bone in 3D and plan the implant's angle and depth. That makes surgery more precise and predictable — and tells us from the start whether you need a graft or sinus lift, or whether you're a candidate for immediate loading.

  • CBCT scan to map the available bone
  • Surgical guide when the case requires it
  • Immediate provisional only when stability allows

Frequently Asked Questions

We don't publish fixed prices because an implant quote depends on your case: how many implants, whether you need a bone graft or sinus lift, extractions, and the type of crown. Send a recent panoramic X-ray or clear photos on WhatsApp and we'll reply with a preliminary, itemized quote; it's confirmed after the 3D scan at your free assessment. Whatever clinic you compare, ask whether the figure includes the abutment, the crown and the imaging — many ads quote the titanium post alone.

Usually not, and a clinic that promises a finished implant in a single short trip is skipping biology. The implant needs 3–6 months to fuse with the bone before the final crown goes on. Most travelers plan two trips: the first (about 5–7 days) for the assessment, 3D scan and surgery, and the second (about 3–5 days) for the final crown. The exception is immediate loading — a provisional tooth fitted the same day or within 48 hours — which is only possible when bone quality and implant stability allow it, and even then the definitive crown comes after healing.

Plan about 5–7 days for the first visit. That covers the assessment and scan, the surgery, and a post-op check a few days later before you fly. If you need extractions or a bone graft first, your plan may change — we confirm the exact schedule in writing before you book flights. Avoid long-haul flights in the first 24–48 hours after surgery when possible.

Immediate loading means attaching a provisional tooth or bridge to the implant on the day of surgery or shortly after. It is an option, not a promise: it requires good primary stability of the implant and adequate bone, which we check on the 3D scan and during surgery. The provisional is lighter-duty — you eat soft foods while the implant integrates — and the final crown is placed after 3–6 months.

With good hygiene and regular check-ups, implants commonly last for decades. A 2019 systematic review in the Journal of Dentistry reported a 96.4% implant survival rate at 10 years. The crown on top is a separate piece and may need replacement over time due to normal wear. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and gum inflammation around the implant (peri-implantitis) are the main threats to longevity.

Roughly 1 in 20 implants fails within ten years, most often in the first months, before the crown is placed. The usual causes are smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, insufficient bone, untreated gum disease, teeth grinding and poor hygiene after placement. We screen for all of these before quoting: if you need a graft first, we say so; if grinding is the risk, a night guard becomes part of the plan.

Only if the 3D scan shows there isn't enough bone height or width to hold the implant. Bone loss is common when a tooth has been missing for years. In the upper back teeth, a sinus lift may be needed to gain height. A graft adds healing time — often a few extra months — so we tell you at the assessment whether you need one and how it changes your travel plan.

It can be, if you choose the clinic as carefully as you would at home. The CDC recommends checking the provider's qualifications, getting a written treatment plan, and arranging follow-up care before you travel. Ask any clinic for a 3D scan before surgery, an itemized written quote, the brand and reference of the implant, and copies of your X-rays — and plan for a local dentist to see you between trips.

Yes, as long as you bring the records. We give you the implant brand, reference and size plus your X-rays, so your home dentist knows exactly which components fit. Implants from recognized manufacturers are serviced worldwide, which is why it's worth asking any clinic which system they use before you commit.

The surgery is done under local anesthesia, so you feel pressure but not pain. Afterwards, most patients describe discomfort similar to a tooth extraction for 2–3 days, controlled with standard pain relievers, a soft cold diet and rest. Swelling peaks around day two and fades within the first week.

For a single missing tooth, usually yes. A bridge requires grinding down the two healthy teeth next to the gap and does not stop the jawbone from shrinking underneath; bridges typically need replacement after 10–15 years. An implant replaces the root, leaves the neighboring teeth untouched and preserves bone. A bridge can still make sense when the neighboring teeth already need crowns or when there isn't enough bone for an implant.

Yes. For patients traveling to Medellín we help coordinate airport pickup and share hotel recommendations near our clinic in El Poblado, and we schedule your appointments in blocks so you have time to recover. Our team speaks Spanish and English.

A single implant replaces one tooth with one titanium post and one crown. All-on-4 uses four implants to hold a full fixed arch of teeth, and is designed for people who have lost most or all of their teeth in one jaw or whose remaining teeth are failing. If that's your situation, see our All-on-4 page.
